At the CERN & Society Foundation, it is our mission ‘To Spread the spirit of CERN Scientific curiosity, for the inspiration and benefit of society’. And we are proud to say that we have taken great strides towards achieving this goal in the last year. We have helped bring STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) education for thousands of students in 2019 through our various initiatives, which were possible thanks to the support of private donors, institutions and corporates from around the world. 

Through the Beamline for Schools Competition, globally more than 1300 students were engaged in STEM subjects. We enabled the training of 179 teachers in contemporary high-energy physics. And through the Non-Member State Summer Student Programme, 57 students were given access to particle physics, engineering and IT. We even hosted 14 successful applicants for a five-week residency at CERN through the CERN Entrepreneurship Student Programme, 26 artists through Arts at CERN, 3 PhD Students through the ATLAS PhD Grant and 24 students for a two-week period through the High-School Student Internship Programme.

We are extremely humbled to announce that are well underway with the Science Gateway Project, for which more than two thirds of the target has now been raised. The Science Gateway will be a new facility dedicated to scientific education and outreach. This 7000 square meter building is being designed by the world-renowned architects Renzo Piano Building Workshop in Meyrin.
